By Samra Habib
The World at My Back is a memoir by Bangladeshi-Canadian author Samra Habib, which explores the themes of displacement, identity, and belonging. The book follows Habib's journey from her childhood in Bangladesh to her adolescence in Canada, and her eventual return to Bangladesh as an adult. Along the way, she grapples with the challenges of living in two cultures, the loss of her homeland, and the search for a place to call home.
Habib's writing is lyrical and evocative, and she paints a vivid picture of the landscapes she inhabits. She also delves deeply into the emotional complexities of displacement, exploring the feelings of loss, grief, and longing that come with leaving one's home. However, The World at My Back is more than just a story of loss. It is also a story of resilience, hope, and the power of human connection.
Habib's journey is one that will resonate with anyone who has ever felt displaced or out of place. Her story is a reminder that we are all connected, and that we can find home in the most unlikely of places.
