Heloise d'Argenteuil (c. 1100-1164)

Heloise d'Argenteuil was born into a noble family in the town of Argenteuil, near Paris. She was known for her beauty and intelligence, and she received an education that was unusual for women of her time. The Letters

In one of the most famous letters, Heloise writes to Abelard after he has been forced to renounce her and enter a monastery. She tells him that she will love him forever, even though they can no longer be together.

My dearest Abelard,

I write to you today with a heavy heart, but with a love that burns brighter than ever. I know that you have been forced to renounce me, and that we can no longer be together. But I want you to know that I will love you forever, no matter what.

I remember the first time I saw you, and how my heart was filled with such joy. You were the most brilliant man I had ever met, and I was captivated by your intelligence and your wit. I knew that I would love you forever, and I was willing to do anything to be with you.

We have been through so much together, my love. We have laughed and loved, and we have wept and suffered. But through it all, our love has never wavered. It is a love that is stronger than death, and it will last forever.

I know that you are now a monk, and that you have dedicated your life to God. But I also know that you still love me, and that you will always love me. We may not be together in this life, but I know that we will be together in the next.

Until then, my dearest Abelard, I will love you forever.

Your loving, Heloise
