What is Mah Jongg?

Mah Jongg is a Chinese tile game that is played with a set of 144 tiles. The goal of the game is to be the first player to complete a winning hand, which consists of four melds and a pair. Melds can be either sets (three or four tiles of the same suit and rank) or runs (three or more tiles in sequence of the same suit). Pairs are two tiles of the same rank.

How to Play Mah Jongg

To play Mah Jongg, you will need a set of tiles, a dice, and a wind indicator. The game is played with four players, each of whom sits at one side of a square table. The tiles are shuffled and then placed face down in a pile in the center of the table. Each player takes 13 tiles from the pile and arranges them in a rack in front of them. The player to the left of the dealer then rolls the dice to determine who goes first.

On your turn, you can do one of the following:

Draw a tile from the pile
Discard a tile from your rack
Meld a set or a run
Pair a tile

The game continues until one player completes a winning hand. When this happens, the player calls out "Mah Jongg!" and the game is over.
