However, Helga is married to a cruel and abusive husband, and Dr. Glas finds himself torn between his love for her and his moral obligations.

As Dr. Glas's obsession with Helga grows, he begins to spiral out of control. He becomes increasingly isolated and withdrawn, and he begins to experience strange and disturbing hallucinations.
