Shaykh Fadhlalla Haeri was born into a wealthy Shia Muslim family in Iran in 1926. From a young age, he was drawn to spirituality and mysticism. At the age of 18, he left Iran to study in Europe. In Switzerland, he converted to Catholicism and became a Trappist monk. He spent the next 12 years living in silence and solitude, studying theology and philosophy.

In 1960, Haeri had a profound spiritual experience that led him to leave the Trappist monastery and return to Iran. He began studying Islam and Sufism, and in 1966 he was initiated into the Naqshbandi Free Download of Sufism. Haeri quickly became a respected Sufi master, and he taught and guided students from all over the world.
